Good Dark Chocolate

Good, high quality dark chocolate is actually good for you! It's loaded with polyphenols, which has been shown in some studies to lower blood pressure and improve insulin sensitivity. Cocoa butter, which is extracted from the cocoa bean and used in most good dark chocolates, is a great source of healthy fats (mostly monounsaturated and saturated fat, with very little polyunsaturated fat). A good dark chocolate should have a high cocoa, high fat, and low sugar content, and it should also be self-limiting. It will be a little bitter, and that's a sign of a healthy polyphenols level. You probably won't need much, just 1-2 squares. It is still a candy, and shouldn't be over-indulged in. We started with a 70% cocoa bar. It still had too much sugar for our liking, so we went with this one the second time...Green & Black's Organic 85% Dark Chocolate. It is low in sugar (less than 1.5g for 2 squares). I truly don't need or want any more than 2 pcs at a time. I have a little most evenings. I like to just let it melt in my mouth. It's very nice! You could even try a small pc of dark chocolate with a little coconut oil on it. Good stuff! These bars are not inexpensive, but they last us a week or so. I did find some on sale at Walgreens last week, 2 for $4. Eating healthy has never tasted so good!
