Sloppy Joes

Homemade sloppy joes are easy to prepare and much healthier than the canned stuff. I looked up the Del Monte ingredients online and used that as a guide to make my own version without corn syrup! I'd planned to use a touch of honey to slightly sweetened the sauce, but after tasting, I decided it was good without it and left it alone. Keith said he thought it was sweet enough, probably because of the organic tomatoes. They really do have much more flavor over conventional tomato products. If you have fresh peppers, they would be wonderful added to this! Hope you enjoy!

Sloppy Joes
  • 2 lb grass-fed beef
  • 1 medium diced onion
  • 14 oz can organic diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1.5 (15 oz) cans organic tomato sauce
  • 1 TB dried oregano
  • 1 TB dried parsley
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Bragg's Liquid Aminos
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp pink salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp ground pepper
Brown beef. Add onions and cook til tender. Add everything else, stir well, heat through, and simmer. Serve on lettuce or leaves of choice.
We used lightly steamed cabbage leaves from our CSA basket and added a few olives for a healthy fat.
