Ovis Hill Trip

My favorite place to shop is Ovis Hill Farm. He sells a variety of delicious and healthy meats, dairy, produce, honey, and a few other items. Everything Mr. Charlie sells is from a small network of local farms. The meat and dairy products are from true grass-fed and pastured animals. The produce is local and organic. The dairy is from Happy Cow Creamery. If you are wondering about the health benefits of eating grass-fed animals, check out eatwild.com for more information. Grass-fed and true pastured animals are superior to conventional foods, in health benefits and nutritional content, as well as taste. Once you go grass-fed, you'll never go back! We usually visit one of his markets about once a month. Today, we bought 6 dozen eggs, 2 lb butter, 12 oz co-jack cheese curds, 2 gal milk, a pint of honey, 7 links sun-dried & pesto sausage, 4 center cut pork chops, 5 packs of chicken livers, and 17 lb beef: 4 hamburger, 4 stew, 3 filet mignon, 1 T-bone, sirloin steak, sirloin tip, and sirloin roast. The beef is one our monthly pickups, as part of the full beef share we purchased in April. You can read more details here, but basically we bought a virtual 1/4 cow, or 102 lb of beef, spread over 6 pickups. We are paying a flat rate of $5.49/lb for all cuts of beef. It's a significant savings this way, and we also get a small discount on everything else purchased at the market. Our share comes out to $93.33, and the rest was $94.33. Actual cost for today's pickup: $187.66.
